Difference Makers

Dude, I am horrible. Plain horrible when it comes to submitting to His Lordship. Why? How can it be?

My heart strays from the desire to submit to Christ's Lordship. My mind dwells on things lacking holiness. My actions decry I am following myown path. On Sundays (and Saturday nights for some) I settle into our pew or chair, engage the worship music, take great notes on the sermon and that is it. We then head to lunch to be stingy with the waitress, grumpy in traffic LEAVING church and treat our families with disdain. How can we change this OR can we change it at all?

Rarely does it make sense "God wants to change me." Icannot do it myself. He alone makes the difference in our lives! Ever wonder why any worship songs make us tear up or get the chills? Ever wonder why we remember incredible quotes from Scripture? It is a GOD THING. Pure and simple.

He wants me to change! He wants you to change! My prayer is he would change me for the better, one bad habit at a time!

Turkey Musings and Tiger Hatred

This weekend is a great time of year if you are an active participant in the annual Clemson-South Carolina rivalry. We take off early on Wednesday and travel to the respective places where we will engorge ourselves with ridiculous amounts of turkey, ham and deviled eggs. We will go to sleep after taking a near lethal dose to Tums only to devour the left-overs on Friday.

We will wake on on Saturday with one thing in mind, Clemson-USC. I must confess I do not like Clemson at all. I am amazed there is an FCA there, let alone the largest chapter in the country. While my parents are not avid participants in the rivalry I feel as if I were "reared" to disdain anything orange. PERIOD. I do not own anything orange. I do not allow my kids to wear the color outside of Halloween and I rarely call any Clemson person a "friend." The only exception to the friend rule was a guy named Kerry at Gardner-Webb. We were good friend and roommates. He was a Clemson fan and I was a USC fan. He was a staunch democrat, I was a Reagan Republican. He was cold natured. I am warm natured. Thankfully, Kerry is now an "independent" and not a Clemson fan anymore. You will have to ask his wife about his temperature preferences.

My point in all of this is that my sinful nature still rears its ugly head this time of year. I am a glutton and hardly thankful of what I have to eat. My gluttony extends over a 4 day period. Worst of all, I despise Clemson fans. Not over anything personally done to me but just because. It really does not make sense. It actually makes me feel horrible especially when USC loses (which now seems to be a trend). I have decided NOT to watch the game this year. I know it is sad but I must pull myself away from the things that pull me down. As I listed last week in my "famous quotes" section: "You cannot fly with the eagles when you run with the turkeys." This quote is by James Berry. He was my 7th & 8th grade Sunday School teacher. He also happens to be a HUGE Clemson fan.

Rarely does it make sense!

5 Best Quotes I have ever heard:

In No Particular Order...

1. "You cannot fly with the eagles when you run with the turkeys." -- James Berry Sr.

2. "There is No Pit So Deep Where God's Love Is Not Deeper Still" -- Steve Camp

3. "Non-denominationalism is a denomination unto itself." -- ME

4. "I want them to be afraid of how much they love me." -- Michael Scott

5. "Within the covers of the Bible are all the answers for all the problems men face." -- Ronald Reagan

Rarely does it make sense... all of the useless sayings that I remember. Why can I not absorb God's word so readily as statements like the ones above? Do I make it a priority to get alone and read God's word? Sadly, I know the answers to those question.

Prayer: "God, give me the strength to get alone and BE QUIET with you! AMEN!"

Back to Blogging...

It has been over one year since I last blogged. Honestly, I lost interest in writing daily but now see it as an outlet to stay fresh and force myself to think about things that will glorify Him.

I also want to be an encouraging blog that someone might want to read. Be a resource for someone who might need encouragement or a positive thought for a tough time in their life.

This will be a Work In Progress (WIP) as we all are in our daily walk with the Savior...

Remember,

"We are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which God prepared for us in advance to do." Ephesians 2:10
