This weekend is a great time of year if you are an active participant in the annual Clemson-South Carolina rivalry. We take off early on Wednesday and travel to the respective places where we will engorge ourselves with ridiculous amounts of turkey, ham and deviled eggs. We will go to sleep after taking a near lethal dose to Tums only to devour the left-overs on Friday.
We will wake on on Saturday with one thing in mind, Clemson-USC. I must confess I do not like Clemson at all. I am amazed there is an FCA there, let alone the largest chapter in the country. While my parents are not avid participants in the rivalry I feel as if I were "reared" to disdain anything orange. PERIOD. I do not own anything orange. I do not allow my kids to wear the color outside of Halloween and I rarely call any Clemson person a "friend." The only exception to the friend rule was a guy named Kerry at Gardner-Webb. We were good friend and roommates. He was a Clemson fan and I was a USC fan. He was a staunch democrat, I was a Reagan Republican. He was cold natured. I am warm natured. Thankfully, Kerry is now an "independent" and not a Clemson fan anymore. You will have to ask his wife about his temperature preferences.
My point in all of this is that my sinful nature still rears its ugly head this time of year. I am a glutton and hardly thankful of what I have to eat. My gluttony extends over a 4 day period. Worst of all, I despise Clemson fans. Not over anything personally done to me but just because. It really does not make sense. It actually makes me feel horrible especially when USC loses (which now seems to be a trend). I have decided NOT to watch the game this year. I know it is sad but I must pull myself away from the things that pull me down. As I listed last week in my "famous quotes" section: "You cannot fly with the eagles when you run with the turkeys." This quote is by James Berry. He was my 7th & 8th grade Sunday School teacher. He also happens to be a HUGE Clemson fan.
Rarely does it make sense!
